General Pattern Information

Copyright Introduction

All patterns and designs (including ‘free’ patterns) offered by Oceanwind Knits are subject to copyright.

They are for non-commercial use only (meaning you cannot sell items made from these patterns at a crafts fair or use Oceanwind Knits patterns or items to develop a line of retail bags, for example). Items made from patterns to give as gifts are fine.

You, the knitter and/or purchaser, are granted license to own a copy of or use a copy of the pattern purchased under specific conditions (as outlined on this page by Oceanwind Knits and Lori Law). You do not own the actual design or rights to use the pattern as if it were your own. The original copyright ownership (and any other rights to the pattern and design) stays with Oceanwind Knits and the designer, unless specific permission is granted by Oceanwind Knits to transfer those rights.

My works are created in Canada.

Printed versions and PDF versions of Oceanwind Knits patterns are formatted differently. If you happen to spot a printed version of a PDF pattern from Oceanwind Knits somewhere it shouldn’t be, please notify the designer. Any PDF version presented as a printed copy for sale or otherwise is an illegal copy.

Print-published versions of patterns are also, of course, subject to the same copyright, and any copy that is not purchased in its original printed form is an illegal copy.

If you are knitting an Oceanwind Knits design for a client (e.g. someone hires you to knit a bag for them) the client should purchase the pattern for you to use; buying one copy and knitting twenty versions of it for twenty of your clients is NOT ok. It is also appreciated that you acknowledge Oceanwind Knits as the designer of any pattern and garment/item created from a pattern.

Personally purchased Oceanwind Knits patterns may not be redistributed in any way shape or form (whether for free or for compensation). You may print, or save to your hard-drive, personal working copies for your OWN use ONLY. Photocopying a pattern, or redistributing a pattern, in its original format or not is blatantly illegal.

Some Oceanwind Knits patterns are available in retail shops in their original printed form.

Web-Linking

If you would like to link to the web location of the free patterns or to other material on this website, feel free to do so. However, purchasing a pattern and linking to an illegal version of it is NOT acceptable.

Goofs/Errata

Every effort has been made to minimize and (hopefully) eliminate any errors which may occur (humans sometimes goof, no matter how hard we try not to). If you do find an error, please notify the designer.

Presentation

I try to provide both Metric and Imperial size measurements and needle sizes.

Most patterns contain both charted versions and written text versions of any stitch patterns utilized. This is not exclusive: ie. if you buy a pattern and I have chosen not to include written instructions (or a chart) for that particular pattern, and I probably do not wish to, for whatever reason, and perhaps one method or the other was the clearest way to present the design and knitting details. It is always indicated in the product information listing whether or not charts and written instructions or both are included.

Any abbreviations used will be clarified within the pattern.

Purchasing and Downloading Patterns

Downloadable patterns for sale are in PDF format. You will need a PDF reader to view them, such as Acrobat Reader (free, available here).

Skill Sets Rrequired

Estimated skill levels for each pattern are noted both in the pattern and also in pattern listings. For general experience levels and expectations of skills please see YarnStandards.com. I try to include indication of any specific skills required.

I encourage every knitter to branch out and learn new things when the opportunity arises. In addition to helpful books, most communities have knitting guilds and groups that are full of knowledgeable folks.

Pattern Support

Please use the contact form to have any issues addressed. If a pattern you have purchased is updated, you will be emailed any changes.

I will try my best to help you with any questions about technique. If there are techniques used in a pattern which you are inexperienced in, please consult a knitting technique handbook or search online. There are many many knitting help sites and books available, and often your local library will have a knitting collection which includes technique books.

Patterns are available ‘as is’ (ie. they will not be resized, or rewritten to accomodate a different yarn).

Images

Any images presented on Oceanwind Knits (as well as within any patterns), are subject to copyright as well. Please do NOT hotlink to any images on this site. If you’d like to share an image from this site of my work on your site (uploaded to your own server), so long as it explicitly indicates where you obtained it, as well as includes a link back to Oceanwind Knits, I don’t have a problem with that [and thank you :)].

Using images from Oceanwind Knits as part of a general website design and not indicating where they were obtained and indicating original ownership is NOT allowed.

Yes, You’re Getting to the End of it ;)

And… those are the basics. If you like my work, please let me know. I strive to present patterns and designs which are enjoyable, fun and usable for knitters. I can only continue in this task with feedback from users and consumers. Don’t be afraid to share your POV. :)

And if you’d like to request more information or specific permissions regarding patterns or designs, please, get in touch with me.

Thank you so much for reading. :)
